The focus group of Arts, Culture & Tourism will look at statistical data in the areas of attraction attendance and local funding.

Strategic Community Impact Plan

Arts, Culture and Tourism Final Goals including all Strategies

Vision - Arts, Culture and Tourism:  Arts, culture and tourism are understood to be vital to the quality of life and economic wellbeing of our community.

Goal # 10 - Increase arts awareness and participation through marketing, communications and networking

Strategies include:

  1. identify or form an organization to bring together representation from arts, culture & tourism organizations;
  2. develop marketing and networking plan;
  3. establish data base of arts, culture and tourism organizations and artisans;

Goal # 11 - Advocate community understanding that arts are a significant element of  education.  Strategies include

  1. prioritize the arts as a core subject in K-12 and post secondary public, private and home school curricula;
  2. establish a dialogue with elected and appointed school officials and home school associations;
  3. explore opportunities to expand arts education in post-secondary environments;
  4. share/disseminate statistics, studies and data regarding arts integration;
  5. develop speaker’s bureau to promote importance of arts, culture & tourism;
  6. involve special populations such as elderly and disabled;
  7. garner support from lobbying bodies.

Goal # 12 - Increase and sustain funding in support of arts and culture.  Strategies include:

  1. identify/document the economic impact of arts in the community;
  2. review census data regarding the impact of arts funding;
  3. encourage collaborative grant applications;
  4. establish a community lobbying coalition;
  5. identify potential private and public funding for arts;
  6. leverage financial support and influence from current and potential funders of the arts;
  7. encourage the establishment of a coalition of Executive Directors and Board members of all arts organizations in Washington County.

Goal # 13 - Create and sustain a permanent facility for arts and culture.  Strategies include:

  1. assess the facility needs of arts organizations;
  2. establish long-range planning and coordination for arts capital campaign;
  3. explore establishment of shared facility for local and visiting artisans;
  4. inquire about existing empty buildings;
  5. consider development of an artist’s cooperative;
  6. identify and secure funding source aiming toward self-sustaining resources;
  7. determine corporate ownership of art center.
